What do you put down as an infinite result on the insulation resistance test???

An 8 on its side.
Next question.
An 8 on its side.
Next question.
both my analogue megger IR testers have this miraculous "8 on the side". it the needle says it, that's what it is.
My AVO doesn't!
That'll be FSD then![]()
∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞
I tried that but I can't type with my laptop at 90 degrees.
other way round. fsd is zero Meg.
Shows how long since I last used mine! :smilielol5:
My metrel MFT comes up >999
we are talking IR, or at least i hope so or my previous posts are pants.
What voltage setting is it on though?
on my fluke 1654b I put it on 500v and then it limits it, one min we are not talking IR are we?
are talking continuity?
Does it really matter if we are talking about IR or not???? All your posts are pants....:ihih:
I tried that but I can't type with my laptop at 90 degrees.
No such thing as an infinite IR reading, it's physically impossible. Resistance is finite.

>299Mohms just means that there is more than 299,000,000ohms of resistance between the two conductors. 299,000,001 is more than 299,000,000, as is 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000. Don't mean it's infinite though.
Don't worry, to the layman, the nature of infinity isn't an easy one to grasp
If the meter says >299, put >299 down on the SOTR.
And if the meter says infinity?
I'm gobsmacked that any electrician would need to ask the question in the first place!!
What do you put down as an infinite result on the insulation resistance test???
No such thing, the meaning of infinite is endless, in other words you can not put a figure on it.
If any of us doing our 2360's in the 80's mentioned the word in relation to a test result, we got a b@ll@cking.
you knew what I meant!!!![]()
But if anyone's looking in they might think its for real lol
I remember sparks who would use the word socket for a metal conduit coupler ?
Really. You are gobsmacked? You must have some great life experiences if this question leaves you "gobsmacked".
I do not think the question was gobsmacking though. It was only a question.
Not for an Apprentice or trainee it isn't....
