Is there a cpc in the conduit?

can a metal box be used instead of the plastic? Should come in the same sizes (standard one gang?)

Does it need earthing across the switch. Assuming the incoming conduit is earthed a separate cpc through the switch can pick up the outgoing conduit further along at an accessory.

If you have to use a plastic box for the timer I'd run the steel conduits into a galv adaptable box and bush the plastic box into the side of it.

I agree this is the best method. Unfortunately, I've already hit the knockouts but lesson learnt.
