Been to look at a job today in a council property where there are about 6 flats which are all heated by a communal heating system. Only had a quick glance at the board but couldn't see any obvious equipotential bonding.

So my question is, if you can't bond at gas entry as its in a different "facility" where would you run a bond to? Is it OK to use the nearest point on the heating pipes as there is a run just near the cupboard the CU is in (I'm thinking of the "where practical" comment!)

Generally as in any other circumstance, ...as it enters the building (600mm) But each flat should also be bonded to the MET as it enters the flat... each are treated as a separate entity...

E54 - yes I agree with you but that would probably mean running 10mm green and yellow around the flat and that's not going to look very appealing is it!

Well, if these communal central heating pipes come into the building via underground (direct buried) passage, then it will need to be treated as an additional service similar to those of water and gas. I can only tell you what's required, up to you how you achieve those requirements.

I know that i will encounter many such bonding requirements at a later stage of this project, far more than services than communal heating system!! lol!! I've just thought of 7 of them straight off, but i know they'll be more, every thing from medical gasses to chilled water supplies, and many of these will be both entering a building and exiting!! lol!!
