Cupboard under stairs lighting

Hi

I'm looking to fit a light in the cupboard under my stairs, there is a single socket on the wall next to the cupboard door in the hallway with the wires clipped on the inside.
Not certain yet if this is a spur or on the normal ring circuit but if it's a spur then could I possibly fit a 13a fcu (switched) then wire some 1.5mm cable to a ceiling rose for the light, switched fcu acting as the main switch for the light?

you can do that, but fit a 3A or a 5A fuse in the FCU.

It could be a Spur from the RFC

Yes I know, but reading the thread it seemed to me that the OP, maybe had some difficulty distinguishing the difference between a Radial and a spur, no disrespect to the OP either.

If the existing socket is spurred from the ring final and although it is not likely to overload you shouldn't add another point to it. They would both require protection.

It's on the ground floor rfc as there is only one mcb for ground sockets and there are two 2.5mm cables, 1 coming from ccu to the socket and the other from socket going up into ceiling to the next socket, also I checked with my multimeter, turned the power off & checking it was off, then proceeded to check between each live, neautral & earth conductor at socket & ccu to get continuity so it being just a socket on the rfc, I will fit a 3-5amp switched fcu to be on safe side then wire from the in 1.5mm to the light, yes or no?

Brns, what you are saying does not prove this socket is indeed part of a RFC, it more than likely is but to prove that it is you need to carry out tests,as you are training, have you not been instructed on Safe isolation, a multi meter is not the correct instrument to use.

sounds like he is testing at the consumer unit and at the socket using the low resistance ohm setting on his multi meter. what else would you have him do to prove it's a ring?

Do it the right way, qualified people in whatever sphere of work they are involved in have a moral obligation to help trainees, inexperienced people, in the correct procedures, I believe I have done that, in posting 2 videos on the correct procedures, if you don't agree then that's down to you, as a qualified Electrician.

Yes, I do know how to do safe isolation, yes I do know how to do a ring final circuit test with the figure off 8 connection between live & neautral but I'm sorry for not writing down every little detail step by step of what I'm doing, I've got much better things to do that's why all I wanted was a simple answer & I'm sorry my mistake not a multimeter I meant a Kewtech KT63 multifunction tester and next time I will put every detail step by step off it all & even let you know what I'm having for dinner if you like

A multi function tester is not the correct instrument to use for safe isolation either. To quote a Canadian TV construction personality "if you are going to do it, do it right the first time" gets my vote every time, no short cuts in Electrikery.
