Discuss DNO Fitting Isolator in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Same here, if I had to wait on NIE it would never have been done

I too have fitted one or two, but it did occur to me might the DNO notice (SSE) and - if they did have records - query where the isolator had come from? Or do they just not have that detailed records nowadays?

And here's a pic of one with an isolator:

It's the screwdriver slot with the legend 'Push' 'Off' against it.

Why on earth would someone make a video like this?! And I love the way he's not using an insulated screwdriver and is poking it around the terminals! :D

Who knows? Perhaps he owns the company whose label is stuck on the front of the meter and it's a little extra publicity. I wouldn't employ him to do any wiring for me though.

I think I'll make a video showing round my oven. "Here we have the temperature control dial; moving the pointer in a clockwise direction increases the temperature in the oven to that denoted by these numbers around the outside, ha! which of course are in celsius. Next we have a blank where on another model there would be the grill control..."

and if you ever come across an install that still has the old VOELCB in place.....dont forget that that will serve perfectly well as an iso as well once the earthing has been disconnected from it.....so dont necessarily bin em if you are upgrading...keep em in circuit (tails).....do nicely as an iso and as it was originally designed to break fault...well, it just gets better n better...

I am with Scottish Power and they quoted me £85 + VAT the other day, yet my parents are with British Gas and they are doing theirs for free! Kind of wish I'd stayed with them now and didn't switch!

The new smart meter logs any time it loses power and for how long so if someone starts to fiddle it it brings up when it lost power and for how long, and I would assume they keep a record of power cuts in each area so they can check against these lists if they think someones been at it.

Aye ..... but in MY case - both cases in fact - the meters were not "Smart" or even remotely clever - they weren't even pretty or remotely attractive either - just ordinary, common or garden meters so there was no fuss, palaver or problem. :)

The isolator is fitted AFTER their meter so it's none of their damned business.
