Hi guys,

QUESTION: Do you test the suppliers earth conductor for continuity???

The guidance note 3 2.6.5 refers to regulation 643.2.11 which requires a continuity check be carried out on all protective conductors including: EARTHING CONDUCTOR, CPC's and bonding conductors. I am aware of the bonding conductors and CPC's being tested. But the earthing conductor to be tested? Does this mean that when I have carried out safe isolation, I am supposed to remove the main earthing conductor (from the supplier) from the MET (to remove parallel paths) and carry out a continuity test of this short piece of suppliers earth?

I am currently writing my NVQ inspection and testing unit. I have completed my AM2, and testing units and never come across this test for initial verification, I don't think I've seen it done on any youtube revision videos too.

It would make sense to test it though right? As I was taught you carry out the sequence of test in the order it is in, because the next test always depends on the previous test if that makes sense lol? There would be no point in testing the bonding conductor/ CPC's if there is no suppliers earth right?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help out!

Test the Ze of the incoming earth whilst disconnected from the installation. A live test.
Continuity testing of bonding and cpc's is required, even if there is a problem with the incomer.....for when it is reinstated.
