evening guys

won a job today (9k worth- so obviously want it!)

for a guy called Paul and the companies CSS London
come across as there the contractors.....subbying out work for a spark

but after doing a bit of googling not quite sure what to make of this....

Paul Matthew JORDAN - Personal Appointments (free information from Companies House) - https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/officers/r5ftwkVe1dM2jER8-i3Uq7JyJQM/appointments

any advise?

I will be asking for 1k deposit, then 50% after 1st and 50% after 2nd.

No comment on the link, but some thoughts ...
There is always risk of non payment. Who will your invoice be made out to? Are they solvent? Did they sign your contract? Perhaps a special payment plan 1/3, 1/3, 1/3. Any history of non payment with other contractors ?

Looking at his various directorships he does have an interesting track record that would need a bit more investigation IMO

What I thought- but I am not clued up when it comes to this kind of buisness side of things (just being lil ole sole trader me)

Saw alot of 'liquidation' but does that mean hes a sketchy figure or just had a bit of bad luck in buisness?

All the terms and figures mean nothing to me! And not sure if it is just too much anxiety

I know some people aren't keen, but you could factor your invoices providing there are no terms in the contract which preclude it.

If it was a case of take the job with the worry of not getting paid, or take the job, factor and know that I'll get paid the bulk of the money... I'd factor. You can even use it to make you more appealing by being able to offer extended payment terms.

If you want a contact in the factoring business, PM me with your details and I'll get a friend of mine who runs a factoring service to give you a call. You've got nothing to loose by investigating it as an option.

Anyway you can ask for a deposit to cover materials. And before starting work, say 25-30% upfront.

One thing that always goes through my mind when getting involved with a builder etc for the first time is that they must have had dealings with other sparks before , together with your findings would make me think twice too , I always prefer to work for the client directly myself ....

Just ask for the 9k upfront.
