Hi,
I have a foreign Hnd and a master degree in Electrical engineering as well as the 17th edition.
I am hands on in electrical installation but without Uk installation experience. I have been working in the manufacturing industry for the past 2 years but my interest and strength is in installation.
There is skill shortage in this sector that I am skilled I but all my effort to get in have met brick walls.
I have contacted training centers and they insisted I have to start from level2 and climb up from there.
My question to this forum is to find out if there are other ways for me.
Thanks

If I may ask a question Tol, from what country is your Degree from? just wondering as some training outfits may agree that your degree, may give you a way in to the installation arena.

The requirements to be an electrician are very different to those for an electrical engineer. Are you trying to find work as an engineer? I can't understand why someone with a master's degree would want to be an electrician, you probably won't find it mentally challenging enough and will soon get bored in my humble opinion unless you find a highly technical niche role.

Thanks,
I quite understand your concern that I may not find it challenging enough.
I started my career abroad through the apprentice route working with an electrical contractor then continued my studies.
I have not been able to find a consistent role in the sector so I ask myself ‘why should I suffer when I have skills in though a lower level but will put food on my table and probably find fulfillment.
Thanks

My HNd is from Nigeria but my Masters degree is from the UK.

Have you had your HND checked by UK NARIC? You may find a suitable engineering company, such as those who specialise in instrumentation, control and automation, who'll take you on if you have suitable knowledge and experience even if you don't have a JIB Gold card, that is assuming that your HND is similar to a UK HND in electrical engineering.
