Any one out there ever needed to fit a recessed socket so the plug would fit flush with the wall. On a job and my customer need this so they can fit a piece of furniture close to the wall.

Would there be any demand for some sort of recessed socket in certain situations??

nope. even if the socket was recessed, the cable would still be on the outside of the wall if you like. that would look crap and also put strain on it in certain circumstances. I have never had anybody ask me for something of the like.
if a customer doesn't want a plug top sticking out, tell him you can fit an FCU instead.

No mate, never come across that request before, bit of an odd request, agree with dan86 if your customer is that particular an fcu is the way to go, trouble is they will whinge that they can't unplug the appliance, customers can be weird at times.

I'm sure I am not the only one who has taken an sds to a wall and blown a hole straight through as it was thinner than you realised... I did that once but I was rewiring so wasn't an issue.

You will need to move the socket to the side of the furniture for isolation reasons.

Google TV plugs. There is a firm that makes recessed boxes for plugs behind flat to the wall tv's. They are normally at ELEX. Best to control by an isolation point accessible.
