Does anyone on here deal with councils and local governments?

How do you go about getting on the 'Approved Suppliers' lists, is it complicated, and does it cost money. Or do you just ring them up and say 'its joe bloggs electrical here, I can do X,Y,and Z, please let me tender for some work'

I know these organisations can be a bit 'elf n saftey' and paperwork mad, and do the insist on NICEIC registration , but there must be some good work to be had !

Appreciate any comments !

My local council wont even consider you unless you have been trading for five years, niceic approved contractor, and as allready been said health and safetey mad, assuming you can satisfy all their requirements you then go on a list of contractors, when the work comes up for tender they invite the top five to bid then those five move down the list and the next five move up so they get to tender next time and so on,and to top it all off they make you wait 3 months for your money:eek:.well thats the official line,i reckon its all down to the good old backhanders myself.:D

Yep its not what you know, always been the same btw not a new phenomena. But then again I've dealt with these people, 60-days payment, after 65 you then have to chase them up, then they will pay when the 'socket left loose' is tightened...a tiler or other trade has left loose. No use arguing...so I just now go sky high in price, some you win most I lose, but hey who cares. I'ts only rate payers money they are wasting
