Discuss Is it acceptable to use LED strip lights in kitchen? in the Lighting Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Yes and no. In that order. Fluorescent lights are now old technology.

Probably best to buy the IP65 rated strip lights.

Personally I prefer to use the LED under cabinet lights that plug into one another.

Presumably domestic kitchen? If so is it a new installation or replacing existing lights?

I can't really see any dangerous 'hot' situations arising in domestic.

There are plenty good, diffused, LED battens for replacing fluorescents, as above, IP65 if required.

By the way, is it Mr Sparky......or Mrs Parky? ?

Thanks mate, they’re going in a commercial kitchen so no need for under cabinet lights haha

In most instances, with commercial kitchens, it's a case of suspended ceilings and 600x600 recessed led panels, cleanliness being a major factor.
Situations can vary, of course.

You can get fittings specifically rated for hot & steamy environments such as commercial kitchens. They tend to be somewhat more expensive than standard fittings.

By ‘hot’, are you talking about stainless steel canopies over cooking ranges? If so, have a word with the kitchen engineers/installers. Many a time, various light fittings can be involved, generally specific or special, usually supplied with units. Still need wiring and sometimes installing, though.
