HI,

I hold a JIB ECS card and my qualifications are as follows:

Completed Apprenticeship
NVQ Level 3
City and Guilds 2391- Inspection and Testing

I have lost my job as an employed electrician and I want to know what I need to do to go self employed and sign off my own work

Do I need to join another scheme?
What certification can I use?

Any help is appreciated

take a look at part p , download from planning portal. you can sign off you own work if it's not notifiable. for notifiable work, you need to join a scam or pay labc exhorbitant fees.

You can self employed right now, buy your test sheets from a wholesaler and carry on getting and completing work. Most Jobs are not notifyable and the only skill required is competance which you have obviously by your qualifications you listed. Whilst working for yourself you can then apply to a scheme, take your pick and they will guide you through their personal system and let you know the requirements they want to give you approval on their roll. It will be very basic really, and nothing to worry about. In the mean time whilst waiting for approval you could always get a mate to sign your work off if any notifyable work is carried out or pay the LABC the 200-300 sobs they expect for the pleasure.

Not a dig as im not here to do that, but to the OP have you not really kept up with where the industry you want to be apart of has been heading in the last few years?

Grufflad, I notice you're from Shrewsbury. If you are planning to do any work in Telford then you do not need to be with a Part P registered scheme as you are JIB graded.

Charging schedules guidance notes - Charging schedules for building work - Downloads - Telford & Wrekin Council

The link explains that you just need to complete the relevant test certificate and issue it to the customer for the LABC to accept the work.

I don't now if the same applies in Shrewsbury but it will be worth looking in to.
