hello people
happy new year and all that
does anybody know if the taxman is likely to have a look at the amount of jobs you have notified to building control through napit/nic etc.
if you tell them you're a member do they have the right to check
mmm???
i wonder???
cheers

Should never be a problem. But if you are ever investigated you are billed monthly by niceic so they will see it on your statments and if they know how much each registration cost they know how much work you've done. Then they will probably ask for the details of each job so they can estimate how much you make. They can ream you out totally if they feel like making your day' they will estimate how much work you've done cash in hand by the volume of work you register. An easy way to keep yourself under the radar is to make sur your cost are about 30%. this is acceptable for a small bussiness in our industry.

Don't forget not all jobs are notifiable (i.e. none domestic, PIR's etc) so its unlikely the taxman would be checking you via the scheme route as this would only project a % of your work.

I think at the end of the day, if they want to dig deeper, then they will.

Thats why notifiable jobs get an invoice.

Not always for the correct amount tho.:D
