Anyone ever managed to destroy anything by IR testing it @ 500V DC (L+N)-E? If so did it have a functional earth on it? Dropping your probe or the croc clip coming off so part of the test was L-E or N-E only doesn't count :)

Nope never happened.

in fact when I did my 2391 at night school, the main lecturer seemed to be pf the opinion that its a load of cobblers worrying about putting 500V through RCCBs and RCDs.

Mind he did drink a bottle of Jack Daniels every day

His opening words were something like

"chances are 7 out of every ten of you lot will fail this in twelve weeks time. I'll give you ten minutes to think it over and anyones welcome to leave if they wish"

Sparky who was with me on the 2391 practical managed to blow the neon in a FSU, apparently. Poor lad , had a mare of a day, he really did shake the wall where the equipment was fitted, I was on the other side trying to get screwdriver lined up with the slots, hey ho.
