Builders say no issue in garage where they have stripped the walls but after 9 years rcd tripping only when downstairs lights are on , feeling lost and scared. When it trips the dstair light switch does not fall only rcd
 
How old is the house wiring and has your consumer unit (fuse box) been replaced. I suspect most people on here like me are thinking crossed neutrals on the up and downstairs lights not uncommon back in the 70s.
