Misue of NICEIC logo.... urrgghhh

Getting really p'd off with this :rant:

Contacted the niceic back in august.

A local cowboy has recently started advertising as an niceic electrician - which he is clearly not !!!

I've lost a couple of jobs to him and he advertises in the same mag as me.

niceic are doing F-all about this (email below from August)

Thank you for your enquiry, regarding the misrepresentation by ************.

I can confirm that ************ are not currently registered as either an Approved Contractor or a Domestic Installer with this organisation.

We will now be investigating this matter with the contractor internally.

The NICEIC takes the misrepresentation of its logos very seriously and would like to thank you for the information you have provided.

Ask another question why are you paying them when they do nothing so send another email to them asking should I be paying you for doing nothing then you will get their attention .

Mind you is this not what we have been banging on about for the past couple of years registration companies taken the money and telling you "you should be registered" or maybe they are just bagging members naa they wouldnt do that would they and make us all the laughing stock of the industry

Could you tell me exactly what you have done regarding this since I last contacted you in August ?

They are still advertising in '*****' magazine and they have done in every issue since I contacted you, they've also still got a couple of site boards up around ******.

It's just not on I pay my fee each year and you've nothing about this.

My renewal will be up in April and will be considering changing to another scheme provider.

Wall of shame deary dear what next they sed him a begging letter say please please please dont use our logo of course that will be after he has done you out of another pile of work No wonder people get agry you pay the about £600 bucks a year he does not yet he is using a logo and getting away with it why dont you request a refund until they can get it sorted out and highlight that he is getting the jobs that you were meant to get so you could pay them

I suppose the cynical amongst us might wonder if they contacted him initially asking him to join. If they take legal action against him it will be of little or no benefit to them. However, if they get a membership fee off of him they'll be up on the deal.

I take it this is for domestic work ?
If so why not have a look on the other scheme provider web sites and try to find him there , if you do i guarantee that whoever he is with will frown upon it .
And if you can not find him , report the jobs he did to building control .

I had a section on my website stating that I only use gas safe registered installers & the gas safe logo. Gas safe contacted me stating that as I wasn't registered I couldn't use the logo on my site & that if it wasn't removed within 24 hurs the matter would be referred to trading standards Being a good boy it was removed within 10 mins

If I was you I would go straight to trading standards allowing him to blatantly misuse the logo causes a devaluation in everyone's eyes

I know of a person that displays an NICEIC logo on his advert in a local magazine. He is not NICEIC registered but the person who he uses is an NICEIC Approved Contractor and has been for years.

No need to get cynical because you are correct if they can "Bag" him then its another guy who is going to get pi$$ed off in the future Is it no wonder why the public at large think we are a bunch of amateurs we dont have one registration company we have a lot of individuals who are looking out for themselves taking our hard earned cash and then treating us with contempt and the worse thing is if they had any brains they would be reading forums like this to get the pulse and feedback of the very people they are meant to look after

Well I would agree with this and yes there is to ways to look at this we are either a bunch of moaning face sods who would complain at a drop of a hat or we are a bunch of dedicated individuals who are saying ok yep we want to maintain high safety standards but we dont like the way our trade is being prostituted in this country ie handing out registration to anyone who can pay never mind that they may have dodgy qualifications as for me I was brought up to be a professional focused individual who yes is cynical with registration companies who run around saying if they are not badged then dont trust them yet the law would say is this individual qualified, and have the correct insurance cover and adheres to the law and regulations then he or she is good to go anything else would be an infringement on free trade

My wife is a dental hygienist. Trained two decades ago in the most prestigious dental college in the land, works all over the place doing specialist treatments and 'hard cases' (it's not just about cleaning your teeth properly, chaps) and has more experience and technical skills than the vast majority of currently practising dentists. Yet, she is so strictly regulated by the GDC than you'd believe. Mandatory CPD of so many hours (all independently logged), can't do this, can't do that....recent example is bleaching: HUGE amount of MEDICAL research into the various concoctions that can be used to whiten teeth and most are banned for Pro use, yet freely available in any beauticians parlour as a cosmetic proceedure by some single-brain-celled 18 yr old girl called Mandy.

The reason you don't think about the GDC when you visit the dentist is the same as why you don't think about the GMC when you see your doctor - they are ONE, standard, legal, buck-stops-here, professional body that everyone knows is above repute.

Maybe we ought to start our own, chaps. Call it T.E.A.

Trading standards won't do anything about it unless it is a customer who complains. Even then the offender will only get a request to cease using it if this is a first complaint.
