Here we go again I hear someone groan
The question I have is, can I issue a minor works cert if Im not registered with eca or niceic? Im full scope part P, and have modified the circuit in a office block communal passage and ladies toilet.
I know that you have to issue a minor works cert with every circuit modification in a domestic premises, Is this the same in a commercial property?

as long as you're competent to test your work, there is no legal requirement to have 2391. however, if you are ever called into a court of law, having 2391 helps to prove your competence as regards testing etc.

You can take on more commercial work and issue minor works certs even if you were a dental hygienist.

Not true Smartspark, you don't need qualifications to do either.

I've heard this many times but I'm unable to find anything about it.
Whose wife was it?

No-one's wife. A female MPs daughter was electrocuted. It's not entirely clear that this instigated Part P of the Building Regulations in England and Wales however, as I believe they were already in the process of being introduced. As I don't live in England or Wales I don't purport to be an expert however!

As that happened in August 04 and Part P became law in January 05, it can have nothing whatsoever to with Part P.

Part P was discussed in the IET wiring matters of Autumn 2004.

Either this is another myth or there must be an earlier incident.

I believe it was a daughter of a politician that got killed after some shoddy work in her kitchen, from a fault on the washing machine to the kitchen sink, made a circuit and kaput.

i stand corrected. obviously i was only told a part of the story. never mind, though, we've got part p now so everbody in the country ( apart from scotlan and horses) is safe from electrocution.
