I am doing a major house renovation in a small 1960 3 bed semi, but need the consumer unit replacing and a partial rewire. The job was started by another electrician who cannot now complete the job.
I am an (out of work) electronics engineer so am competent to do the boring basics but I need the job certified as building control are involved and I want it safe. We are living in the house so this needs to be done in sections so we can cook and watch TV at night.
I need to move this forward urgently as we can't replace the ceilings until wiring done so it's getting bloomin cold!!

Sounds like a nightmare job

Not everyone can leave the house to have work done like this. Yes it would make thing easier but it's not always an option.
Plus you get his help to do all the cack jobs..
Maybe run an temp extension lead from the CU to the living room so they can watch telly...

I know you're out of work, but I would be tempted to vacate the house for a week or so. Dust & mess, leaving power & lighting on each evening, furniture etc. It will end up being more expensive otherwise.

What has already been done?

The whole house is like a bombsite with mess everywhere already; you couldn't make more mess if you tried! As mentioned we have no ceilings on ground floor, and I am waiting to do electrics before fully insulating the loft.
New wires are in place (but not terminated) in all of downstairs except for living room, which should be okay. It looks like house has been rewired once already as it has red and black wires with earth, but the kitchen and dining area were a dogs breakfast of junction boxes when we pulled the ceiling down, which I had to do to re-plumb the house.
Currently running on 3 breakers + some bizarre looking fuses connected to what looks like an old economy 7 timer (high current feeds) until new breaker panel is fitted and switched over.

This is a mix of the new and old wiring, as we are still running on the old; perhaps you missed that point. This was just to show how we are living until I find a decent sparkie, not just ones that want to post stupid comments.

As per my previous post, a live in rewire will cost you more; it will need more sparks on the job each day. I suppose with the ceilings down, it will be slightly less hassle.

Its not a job I would of taken, working with just myself. Whoever does it, gonna take some working out what the other sparks did, and tidying up the mess he made, no offence meant.

forgive for being so rude .I understand your predicament
it would be advisable too get a spark near to you .but you say the LBC .on your case please enlightened us .

Hum ............ Reading between the lines I think this poster is after some desperate spark who will come along after he's chucked more cables in and just sign it off.

Good luck with that.
