Hi lads and ladies,I have been working for a firm now for three and a half years doing maintenance and last week I have been given a new job todo with in that role of serviceing lights for various different companies. The problem the company expect me to know everything with in this role ,the problem is I have come across some lights that I could not get to work.If the light is not working instead of getting and fitting a new light I have to replace the ballast ,I came across one fitting which was emergency I replaced the module and the ballast and only one lamp would work, bottem line is I dont know very much about the internal workings of lights to carry out the work correctly is there anybody out there that could help me with this matter

Replace, take the old unit back to the workshop and repair as required.
Worked for me for 40 years. Except it would be dump it on the bench and tell the mate to repair it.
There was a skip outside the shop when all else failed.

you will find some fittings are wired differently even if the ballasts are rated the same. Some ive seen have the tubes in parallel some in series. Some are HF and some are switch start. For every site I manage now I have 2-3 spare fittings I have already repaired and now I just swap out and rewire on my bench as Tony mentioned above. I try to keep ladder work to a minimum. If I come across a switch start I am replacing with HF. Always try to get the same ballast if possible also as it saves loads of time rather than redrill new holes replace short cables etc etc

just take your time on the jobs, its not a race.

i had a mate who treats all this jobs as a race lets just say, he made some errors
