Hi. I'm looking to buy My First Multifunction Tester, a voltage indicator and a proving unit. Do you have any advice or links to special offers, bundles, etc? I'll be doing domestic EICRs, fault finding and remedial work (all domestic). TIA :)

Edit: My budget is £800 all in

several megger 1500 series on ebay. old but does everything you need. (1552,1553). buy from a trusted seller, perferably calibrated. can't go wrong here:

Will throw in an unpopular suggestion and add the caveat that I'm not an electrician.

Bought a DiLog DL9110 MFT for some domestic testing after doing work that I couldn't find anyone interested in doing. Might not be the fastest and wont have features that more expensive testers have, but it did everything I needed in a domestic situation and leaves plenty of your budget for voltage tester, proving unit and other tools.

A couple of the big sites specialising in testers will usually throw in something extra with new MFT purchases - currently wander lead or earth leakage clamp meter seem to be common offers.

I'd be curious to read comments on 2 pole voltage testers and proving units as I don't know much about them and whether there is much to gain between different brands. I had a Fluke T110 for many years, which was recently replaced under recall for a brand new one, and a Martindale proving unit. They both work as intended, which is all I've ever needed them to do. Some higer spec voltage testers will have additional features, such as phase rotation, but you probably don't need that.

I can recommend the megger TPT320 voltage tester for proving dead, it’s also got phase rotation, continuity checker and a nifty little torch on the end that I never use. Cheapest I’ve seen it is around £60 on discount electrical. You can buy a proving unit for it, around the £40 mark I think, so plenty left in your budget for an MFT and isolation kit.

As for MFT’s, I like Megger, simple to use and do all I need. Like Tel said above, you’ll pick up a 1500 series within tour budget.

That's a decent budget and if you hunt on ebay you will get some good calibrated kit for that price. It'll even get you a brand new one in certain brands. All depends what features your looking for.
