Overide PIR sensor?

Hi all

Can anyone confirm i can overide a PIR sensor by switching the switch feeding the sensor on/off quickly, Like you would a security light?


There is a extension being built with about 5 low energy bulkheads around the building lighting up the path around the building, these will be on a PIR so when someone comes out the back door all 5 bulkheads will come on once the pir has picked you up.

The lights will be fed from the ring main on a switched spur.

Will the pir be overided to keep the lights on perm if i quickly switch the spur on/off. or will it depend on the PIR i fit?

this should work the same as a security light but just turn the lights of then back on this will overide the unit . then when ready switch turn of , on of on quickly to reset

Instead of having a switched spur, you could use a fused connection unit , then run a feed from a light switch in the house to the outgoing side of the switch on the PIR. ie, the side that goes to the lights. Then you can simply switch the lights on and off, and the automatic detection will still work as normal. I have did this before.

Check on the type of PIR you are fitting as most will not work with Low energy fluorescents.
