Plumbing question if its allowed ???

Hi all,

Thought id ask on here first if its allowed, before having to register on a plumbing forum.
I have got a problem with my toilet at the moment, everytime I flush it, it makes a horrendous loud noise which sounds like the fog horn on a ship !!!
Do any of you know what might be causing this, and how to rectify it ?? I wondered if it might be an air lock or something. Any advice would be much appreciated, if you have ever come accross this before.

Sounds like you need to check the float valve is working properly can be because the valve is not opening fully

Try turning your water pressure down a bit at the stop tap.

inside the ball valve is a rubber gasket. it will be that they go hard after a while. 5 min job to change and usually no tools required.

Definately sounds like a valve perished, have a look on this page to distinguish which valve is fitted to your loo.

You can pick repair parts from plumb center, PTS, Plumbase etc
If it is a new push button flush, they are a bit more tricky to repair as there are so many different types.

Need a bit more info eg has it just started has anyone done any plumbing work etc.

it sounds like water hammer, which as the other guys have said it could be a perished diaphram washer or it could be that the water pipies need better suport.

pfft if your all that good.........
i put a new pressure release valve on my combi and changed the expansion vessel as the pressure wouldnt hold (valve was dripping + us, vessel wouldnt hold pressure)
ive tested everything else
and now my pressure just keeps going up?

Did you check the expansion vessels pressure before installation it should have 0.5 - 1 bar pressure before installation on the air side of the vessel

Your problem sounds like this was not checked

Just replaced 2 recently with no problems

yeah when i said i changed the vessel i mean 'my mate' me.
is there any way of verifiying that now? the vessel get 1/4 hot and has pressure in it.

You would need to drain some of the water from the system to release the water pressure in the expansion vessel you can then check the pressure on the air valve with a car pressure gauge

Thanks for the advice guys, i will have a go at sorting it based on what you have told me.
