Hey guys, I know that this isn't an automotive electrical forum but I do not know where else to post this. I have a Pioneer VSX-D307 home theater reciever and was thinking about hooking it up to my car. I have a cigarette lighter to wall adapter that puts out 100w. Is it possible (at least safe) to plug my receiver, into the car and run at least one speaker off of it?
Here's the manual for my reciever HERE

Thanks!

it may work, your inverter should shut itself off when overloaded, but it may die with a puff of smoke if its a cheap chinese one.
it will be much simpler to go with a car audio amplifier.

The one i have is from radioshack and is about 7-8 years old.

I was thinking about doing that but i figured, for a once in a while setup, it was just cheaper to hook this up. than bring wires from the battery, through the firewall and into the trunk.

Speaking about car amps. do i have to match the ohms? my speakers are two Bose speakers rated at 8 ohms. Also, is there a car amp that I don't have to hook up to the battery? (ex. cigarette lighter)

(BTW im in the U.S. (if that makes any electrical difference))

fit a lead ending with a lighter plug to a car audio amplifier. should work ok unless its some monster sized one.
8ohm speakers would be fine for most of amps.

What do you mean a Lead? like a lighter plug that would split into say croc clips? (sorry im a novice when it comes to all this)

Okay, so in theory i could buy say a lighter plug extender (or any lighter plug device) and cut it, strip the wires and voila. Also, would this be a sufficient amp HERE

a cigarette lighter is completely inappropriate way of powering up an audio amp of either ac or dc voltage.

unless you want a load of hiss & crackle on the sound when you switch on / off other vehical loads , then you will need a clean negative earth connection , and the only way of getting that is a direct bolt on chassis earth.

buy a proper car amp , hard wire it on its own supply , job done properly

As above will save a lot of grief....looking at the spec, your drawing just off 100w at 110v (1.1A) so the invertor will draw 8.3A at 12v
