Can anyone offer help/advice to get me through this stage, due to personal problems im half way through the course but not even half way through the material so really need to get through this ASAP! Thanks very much all!

I'm doing the Trades Gateway H&S test as part of the Domestic Electrical Installer Course. Failed it 4 times online and really struggling through the paper assignment which is mind numbingly w*nk! Did you pass it? I'd be interested to hear if you did. I'm so fed up with this course to the point where I feel like jacking it in.
Good luck

Hi fellas , im desperate :) i failed teh pre attendance test 3 times , ive noticed many ppl did, have anyone passed this test?can they share the results?
Is there a fb page, or a whats up group, or anything where ppl talk beside this forum, on how far they got, or helping each other?
Im also really curious , as they promised that in average they will put you to work after 9-12 months...is anyone in this situation? did they found a place to work?
If people are coming together to help each other like Tom and Green lid, im in aswell.
Thank you in advance.

Right guys, im sorry i've been away had problems with my account! Sorry in advance for my essay that is about to come.

The Pre-attendance test is dog .... excuse my language. I'm currently in a H&S role and i couldn't pass it, it's one of this A&B or A or B or Neither kind of things and isn't really a true exam, nor is reading through the 2 lots of H&S regs, which site managers don't even know all of it.

Speaking to other providers of similar courses the H&S test should be a simple test that you can work safely e.g. know colour bands of the extinguishers etc. Basically the customer service had no sympathy, i failed it 2/3 times and they mentioned if i failed it a fourth i get to do a written module instead (yay! no...) so talking with others apparently this is a stalling tactic by them as they may not actually have any practical courses at that time. Obviously only hear-say though. All in all I've heard the course is passable but is no where near what is advertised (qualification wise as well) and promised so I've taken them to the ombudsman. All i'll say is be careful too, although there is no chance of failure on this course, there is a 3 year cut off (which they seem to forget to mention to you in the initial interview).

Sorry i can't bring better news about these guys but they have been absolutely useless (along with their study material) since day 1 and unfortunately you can't really see how bad they are until you get to this first pre-attendance test. Long past the Credit agreement 14days..

If anyone wants an update from how i get on through the ombudsman just message me, I'm quite frequent on here now and after the disheartening from this course, i opted to go for a HNC in electrical and electronic engineer (which i'm thoroughly enjoying").

P.S. If you want a legit and very good company down in the south-east (Kent) look at able skills, my mate is going through them and has nothing but praise for them, has learnt a lot and be it open learning or at the centre, all the practical elements are very professional and beneficial to your skills.

oh wow....did the ombudsman help you out to get all youre money back from t4s?
My complaint is in takes 12 weeks and I should be notified in about 2 weeks. Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear. It is a course where people get legit qualfications but obviously the company themselves are not very good or reputable. I got strung in like most others by the salesman and before it got bad the 14 days loan agreement was up. Well mine was a year into it like others

if i can ask you, for how long you where with this ....company?
i think you said 1 year? and even after 1 years still no work provided?if i understand you corectly
I was with them well currently it's over 2 years but as I said the cracks in there course started to occur around a half a year to a year in. Yeah I've done no practical element not had any sign of this so called written assignment even 12 months after failing 3 times

Wow I'm glad I've found this forum as I thought it was only me having a tough time with this course.

Albeit I signed up in 2014 and with work commitments I haven't been dedicated to this course like I should have been. In Oct 2017 I managed to get a job ALOT closer to home which was all about giving me time to compete this course rather than wanting to work for the company I've changed to.

When I rang up off the offchance about a time limit on this course, they told me 3 years (which I do not remember this being mentioned to me when I signed up) I realise this had passed and asked for a extension, which I got (extra 12 month) at a cost of £130!!

I've attempted this H&S pre attendance test for the second time and FAILED again.

I will be attempting to do it again this Sunday and was wondering if anyone has had any luck with it?

Hope this forum is still alive as it's been a very interesting read into this course and the struggle other people are having (makes me realise I'm not the only one which I thought it was)

Thanks

Kyle

Hey Kyle,

I'm still about, mainly because i ask for help along with a HNC with Teesside uni thread i go to here.

It's unfortunate mate and as with you im the same. I think it's just the way they are, out for more money... I've just given up with the course in general and put a complaint into the ombudsman, if i get any luck ill let you know and if not.. well I'll see what i can do from there.

What job did you manage to get into?

the H&S exam is ridiculous and not a proper H&S exam by any standards, I had myself (someone who deals with H&S daily) and my supervisor go through it and we couldn't. When i asked my mate (doing another C&G 2365 lvl 2/3) i asked what he did for it and it was a simple one such as water fire extinguishers have the colour band? etc... Reading other forums it sounds like it's a stalling tactic by them because they don't have available practical courses. But thats just hearsay.

If you need any help or if i can just give me a shout.

Connor

Hello

You from Teesside aswell?

What you mean by HNC?

I'm a store manager in retail and I have been trying to get out for a while as i feel I've done my time in it now. But unfortunately I'm still stuck in it.

After reading some of these forums I'm tempted to sack it in myself and go back to college, but running a house isn't cheap! Haha

I'll see how I go on Sunday with resubmitting this test as I feel bit negative towards it all at the moment

No im from Norfolk.

Oh it's Higher National Certificate, a different qualification, in between an NVQ and a degree.

No i know how you feel mate, i got my own house as well and when it wasn't going great i needed something more concrete for money. But i do still wanna be a sparky and have been looking at local colleges, to be honest they take longer and a bit more commitment when you might not want to (1/2 evenings a week) but 4 n a half to 5 years time you are a fully qualified sparky, C&G/NVQ lvl 3 & AM2. The one i looked at was around 2,100 for the lvl 2 and lvl 3 and they didn't mention prices for NVQ and AM2 but they are normally not more than 1-2 grand. No doubt you can get a job after you do the C&G 2365 lvl 2 or 3 to build up the experience and get paid!

Yeah it does make you feel negative. Although if you can get through it and at the end of the day get the qualification you want, albeit it not in a positive way, then that's all that matters. Let me know how you get on with the course in general either on here or messaging. I'd be curious to know how it progresses as you get further in. Like i say i still learnt alot of the theory through it and my experience elsewhere so any help you need give me a shout. I am an electrical engineer by trade!

Wow.... not sure how but I managed to pass the pre-attendance test!!

It did throw up some questions which I hadn't had in previous test, so all the screenshots I took of the questions weren't always helpful as I hadn't revised some of the questions

It did however take almost the full time. 5 mins to spare as I had to google some of the answers to the questions.

I've now got to read 2 booklets which have questions in that I need to take when I do some practical. I can't mark them as 'completed' until ANOTHER 7 days have passed. Once they have been marked as completed, I can then ring them to book myself on the practical.

Still not feeling 100% confident on the course after reading what people said but hey ho I'll see how it goes.

I'll have to reevaluate towards the end of the year as this extension only allows me to complete the course by December. I'm just unsure if I can complete the full course within a year?

If not, I've looked into local colleges and they start in September. If it's not looking like I'm going to complete the course by the end of September, I'd rather bite the bullet and take a gamble and go through college.

@Kyle88 Congrats buddy!

Yeah it does seem like when they have vacancies for practicals they seem to let people pass!

Bloody rediculous! If you’ve passed, you’ve passed why wait longer? Jesus h Christ they annoy me..

Yeah see mine runs out in June this year. I didn’t even attempt to go through it in the end... I just hope my ombudsman claim comes in my favour.

Yeah I mean that’s what I’m looking at doing in the end, a college close to me does evening classes in Essex. And for some reason it’s a damn sight cheaper when in a college!

Again let me know how it progresses :) I hope for the best but can’t help but expect the worst!

Hi all
New here, failed my exam for the third time this evening and I’m based in Manchester so not sure if the lack of local courses thing, if true, is something to do with it? I was sure I’d nailed the test, went back through to check and match up with previous questions,
Google and used the two pdf links they give you but failed. Two things annoy me, no pass mark given just pass or fail so not sure if you have to get 100% or 60%! And secondly two answers can basically mean the same. Has anyone else noticed/come across this? Anyone got any words of wisdom?
@Kyle88 - congrats!
Regards
Ollie

It is --------, you’re right. Just failed it for the 4th time and now will no doubt be getting sent this shitty paper copy. It is health and safety. The main problem is the fact that the majority of questions are so long winded and ambiguous:
Statement one: sounds can travel in air and through structure so when considering noise in the workplace both need to be taken into account
Statement two: sound absorbers work better than sound insulators but both have a part to play in the reduction of noise
Possible answers:
Statement one and two are correct
Statement one is correct and linked to statement two
Statement one is correct and not linked to statement two
Both statements are incorrect

Maybe it’s just me but looks like I’m not the only sufferer, has anyone got any words of wisdom for this paper copy? Had anyone got anywhere with it?

TIA

Hi all,

Just looked at their website. So you get all these qualifications below even though the course is home study. Bet this cost a fortune

Full Scope Electrician
  • Part P Defined Scope
  • City & Guilds 2382 – 17th Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations
  • Part P Full Scope
  • 2391-52 Level 3 Award in inspection and testing
  • City & Guilds 2365 Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installations (Building, Structures)
  • City & Guilds Level 3 NVQ
  • City & Guilds 2392 – Certificate in Fundamental Inspection, Testing and Initial Verification
  • AM2 (Achievement Measurement 2) Assessment
Please note that all examinations and assessments are conducted by an accredited external organisation.

And once you have qualified here are some of the things you’ll be doing to earn your living:

  • Work as a fully qualified electrician running your own business or working for a firm.
  • Carry out periodic inspection and testing of electrical equipment.
  • Install systems and equipment in homes and commercial properties.
  • Install cabling, fit electrical equipment and test circuits in home environments.
  • Work on commercial maintenance contracts, perhaps for hotels, restaurants and offices etc.

hey all,

Sorry I haven’t been checking this page...

I had to do the long written assignment and got it marked and passed first time.

I’m about to go to centre for my 6th and 7th week out of 9.

Currently finished level 2 and got my BS 7671 18th edition.

The work you do through the TMAs is pretty boring and unnecessary other than getting base knowledge. Try and storm through these as quick as possible as you have to be at certain points in order to book weeks at the centre!

The centres are a separate to the trades gateway/t4s etc and don’t really know what work we do so through level 2 do a fair bit of theory with you.

Level 3 is different as there is much more complexity and you need to get a book and do some work separately. They will put you on a site called smart screen and that has worksheets and things to help you as well.

Any questions

Just ask!

Regards

Tom
