So I work in full time sales, wanting to become a full time sparky, I am a novice to the sparky game. I have an uncle that works as a sparky, he knows a chap that might be able to get me a few months working as a spark's mate(2-3 months contract work), which is great, but the question I wanted to ask was, is it better to get some qualifications first and then go on as a spark's mate? Or just go for it and hopefully get the quals a bit further down the line? I am hoping to be able to work as a mate and study at the same time however some of this work may involve working away, not local etc so might not be an option. Just weighing up the options. Any input would be most helpful as I'm sure you will all know which would be better. Thanks in advance!

i agree with the other two replys roll you sleeves up and get stuck in the contract work will mostly likely go on to something else especially if you get on with the sparky your working with.

Wise words spoken already.....why pay for a course. You might not even want to do it....after a few weeks hard graft.

Experience first, Then do your qualifications. I also recommended to up skill as much as you can. Also being an electrician is very diverse. I’m an E&I. Electrical instrumentation. I done house bashing for about a year and it wasn’t for me.
