A simple one I guess but one I have not come across:

3 bed house - 1 CU - 16th edition I guess with 1 RCD covering 5 circuits.

The kitchen was on the downstairs ring.

I have added a brand new kitchen ring and a 6mm cooker feed.

Can I use RCBOs to protect the circuits on the spare side that is currently unprotected by the rcd?

Thanks All

I did the same in my kitchen but that was before part p. It was perfectly ok then. Now ? Not sure, the part p guys will tell you more.

Absolutely fine

Yes but you only need to on the circuits you have installed or extended. Depending on the board RCBOs can be a very tight fit due to the height and can be very tight against the earth and neutral bars making a tidy job almost impossible.

I think you need to confirm this as it'll impact what you can do!

Defo 5 circuits that cover the RCD - meant (I guess 16th edition install).

Board is a Wylex - (£100 screwfix jobby) - what are the RCBO fit in these like?

Fitting RCBOs in a Wylex NH CU is usually pretty straight forward from memory, about 50mm headroom above the RCBO, not the best, but far from the worst CU on the market.

If you have calculated your maximum demand and the installation allows then the suggestion you put forward is the most desirable in my opinion.

You may or may not be aware that the work you mention is covered under Part P of the Building Regulations therefore it will need signing off appropriately.

Only once have I struggled with Wylex RCBO's and that's only because the installer before had thrown in the cables and left very little room. after a few alterations they slotted in just fine and the new cables terminated perfectly.

:thumbsup
