Hi all, I'm thinking of buying a couple of remote controlled dimmer switches (the ones that can learn from any remote control) or so i been told! i know nothing about them so before diving in and buying them, do i need a neutral in the switch circuit?

hiya mate weve got a couple of these in our house, they dont need a neutral to them, ours are of the touch type, touch quick for on/off, hold finger on to dim up/down had them a couple of years now with no problems, you can purchase a remote control with them too, but mine will learn the signal from any t.v. remote, the bedrooms ones the best i programmed it to the tv stand by button and my missus complains because she switches off tv and light comes on, (must reprogram it soon) if you fit one beware because when the switch is switched off you still have voltage at light, i found that out when being lazy, and only switched off at dimmer when changing the light -:crack, fizzle,flash & bang, still volts at light. hope that helps dave
 
If your talking about Varilight a word from the wise they have volatile memory so will reset after outage, better to use defualt IR codes and use a programmed remote than to program the light switch especially if you suffer frequent power outage
