Spd from main switch

Hello all,
i am fitting an Spd to an existing installation and looking through installation instructions and it has a diagram where the feed for an Spd located externally has come from the bottom of the main switch. Does not seem right to me. Just wondered what people’s thought were on this. I will try and post diagram

Won't the MCB trip and disconnect the SPD if there is ever a fault that needs the SPD

Obviously not as this is how all spd's are fitted in a domestic

So 5000v trips the MCB and only the N and E get surge protection?

Thanks for the reply’s. It makes sense to me if it is situated next to main switch as you can fit a nice bus bar link. But if situated externally it would have to be a short length of 6mm .

MCBs trip on overcurrent, not voltage spikes.

5000V won't trip the MCB, it will probably damage it.
But if there is an SPD installed that will protect the MCB from the surge.
