Switched Fused Spurs

When you put in a built in appliance in a kitchen which is fed from a switched fused spur, do you hard wire the supply or keep the plug on with the 13a fuse. Personally I'd like to hard wire it but then this will make the products guarantee void, so you could still end up with the issue of having to pull out the appliance because the fuse has gone.

How do you get round this?

Keep the plug on, as you said failure to do so will invalidate any guarantee/warranty.. And will be sods law that it will become important..

As above and if the fuse does rupture they will no dobt be a problem with the appliance so it will have to be taken out antway

How do you get round this?

From your spur run cable down behind the appliance and put a single socket in so you can plug the appliance in. Remember to put single socket on the right or left side of appliance not in the middle behind it otherwise you many find the appliance will not fit flush.

I agree with the original poster. It is not ideal for discrimination purposes having say two 13A BS1362 fuses in series.

Why can't a Qualified Electrician remove a plugtop? It's ridiculous.

remember to use an unswitched socket as well (your isolation is from the fused spur)

Agreed, there was something on here about this plug top guarantee business a little while ago some agreed it would invalidate and some thought it would not. What is the actual truth and what is the big deal??

I think some manufacturers claim/used to claim that removal of the plug top would invalidate the warranty/guarantee.

However I suspect that if a competent person was to do it then it would be wide open to legal challenge.

from what I remember someone said that it had something to do with crimp terminals being used. If a qualified / competent person changed the plugtop or hardwired etc and there was a legal proceedings. what a load of unneeded waist of time that would be surely. unless of coarse it was wired in reverse.
