Depends whos Part P regestered as this work is notifiable , realistically its the responcability of the electrician not the plumber and as IQ has said

i see no problem with this. connecting the stat in the boiler does not interfere with the gas side of it.

Exactly, 'don't disturb the gas route' is the advice we received from Gas Safe.

We get a fair bit of work from a plumber who basically rings us as soon as he suspects an electrical problem with the heating system (about 80% of the time!).

i did a rewire. put a fused spur for the boiler, connected the thermostat and told the plumber, there it is, knock yourself out!
