Just recently done my domestic electrical course at tradeskills4u, and have a rewire job coming up soon and wanted to know wheres the cheapest wholesaler around birmingham/ dudley?

You don't want "the cheapest", you want the one that offers the best value - which may or may not be more expensive.
Factors like having good stocks, and staff that know their backbox from their elbow, have a value too.
And you really need to know where several of them are. No single one stocks everything - and it may be that knowing which one stocks (eg) a particular brand of dado trunking or consumer unit can be the difference between off the shelf parts or a special order (with delivery costs and delays).

My drop in Wholesaler is CEF, now they've catalogued their prices you're less likely to need the KY jelly.

If ordering I use Rexel group as I get good prices through my home branch.

Don't be too proud to use screwfix, for some of the basics they're on price and convenient.

The key is having an idea where the price level is and not being afraid to challenge them.

I have perfected the Roger Moore raised eye brow amd can apply it with lethal efficiency, normally the counter jockey will "see what we can do on that" without a word being spoken.

For ya basics cable back boxes etc you’ll struggle to beat screwfix/toolstation etc and they are convenient when you need something last minute, open early and late, but it’s worth Building up a good relationship with a decent wholesaler as they are much more knowledgeable when it comes to more specialist cable and stuff and they sell by the metre which can be handy, they’ll often drop bits to ya during the day which is handy when you up against it.......you’ll work it all out mate and good luck ?

tbanks guys i have found a wholesaler who does good prices on the cables, and fuseboards, im yet to change one , whats ur guys preferred brand to go to?

My current preferences for cables are Prysmian when it comes to twin and earth, for SWA and HiTuff, whatever my wholesalers or TLC have is fine by me.

For consumer units, depends... my current domestic favourite is Contactum as they seem like nice boards and the prices are pretty good. Don't fit MK as I believe they are getting out of the DB game, give Chint a wide berth. Fusebox boards look good and the prices are great especially as they offer the now preferred choice of RCD type (A I think). Haven't fitted a Fusebox branded board though. I've gone right off BG boards as I've had a number of them where I've snapped all the RCD terminals doing them up to manufacturers torque settings.

For PIRs I tend to stick with Luxomat.

And as has been said, Screwfix... don't bother with the LAP gear or the unbranded tat. But for backboxes, Wago's and stuff like that, they aren't bad and usually have a good stock of all the basics. Like the wholesalers, get to know the staff on your Electricfix/Plumbfix counter. In my experience, if you get to know them and you're a regular, they'll go above and beyond to help you out if you're in a pickle or if something goes awry with an order.

For the small amount of domestics that i do these days , I just use my local Tlc , screwfix or tool statation.
When i was doing loads of domestics i would use edmundsons for bulk orders but their prices were a bit hit or miss...same with Wf

Edmundson seem to make the prices up as they go, denmans for me with screwfix and toolstation probably getting an equal share of the dregs, as somebody else said just stick to branded gear

I also sometimes buy boxes of lamps or transformers off Amazon / Ebay when they are on offer

Likewise keep any eye out at screwfix and toolstation for offers , I picked up 30 Led 240v lamps for just shy of 30 quid inc vat
