Hi all, I am pleased to be onboard with you all and looking forward to joining in with the forums activities.

My reason for my new interest in this site today is this.

I have a "Metrel easitest" mutifunction test set and ever since I had it I have never trusted the trip lock readings of Zs. For instance on an expected Zs of say 0.4 ohm I get readings variant from 0.01 to 1.9 ohm.
I have done a test with 20 readings and then get an average which is very close but why should this be. Is this normal for this test set or a fault.

With the 17th edition trip lock is even more necessary, so should I ignore the trip lock facility and just add Ze to R1+R2, previously measured on continuity, and record the Zs result that way.
Help please.

hi greeny a zs reading will hardly never be the same result as a calculated one, if your meter has been calibrated
just trust the meter and use the results.

Greeny, I believe that there has been an issue with this tester calculating any earth loop reading on a TT supply. Not sure about on a TN system though. Maybe send an email to metrel and maybe they can inform you if it is common.

I have the Metrel Eurotest meter and discovered problems very early on, the problems were sorted when I found faults/bad connections on both of the test lead sets supplied with the meter

Once fixed I got consistant readings and no error messages displayed

A couple of mates of mine have had similar problems with the same meter so my problems were not an isolated case

A few minutes with a multimeter should identify if you have similar test lead faults

Hi, thanks for your help, did you only have Zs problems with the RCD trip lock readings.
My results on continuity, rcd tests and insulation are fine, so I presume my leads are ok.
However I will give them a go with a multimeter to be sure.
The Zs readings have always been inconsistent from new.
Thanks again
Greeny

The fault I found on my lead set was on the earth banana plug, I got good readings until the live tests and then had inconsistant readings on ELI on triplock and normal settings

I just stripped the plug down and resoldered the cable/plug joint worked fine ever since

You should check the other test lead as well as both myself and one of my mates have had problems with loose connections on the plug top causing errors on tests
