hi all,

need to install supply for shower pump which is hot and cold fed. only a 16a supply required but no rcd on CU. so planning to use rcd spur outside CU to protect circuit.
whilst checking for water and gas bonds, gas is present but although 10mm GY leaves CU cant see it on water pipe because new kitchen has been installed so may be behind units. can bonding be confirmed with a test or do you need to see it.

any help appreciated

john

Unfortunatley unless you can physically see a cable on the water pipe you have nothing to attach your MFT to. You can't confirm continiity unless you have 2 ends of the conductor.

is the water stop tap accessible? if so needs cut a hole above in the unit. the connection should be visible and accessible. if the kitchen is newish, get em back to it as they should not have concealed the earth connection.

gs 3 states if a clamp is built in unvisible you can proove continuity using an r2 measurement of less than 0.05page 35

That's not how I interpret it, the words used are "a bonding connection between 2 conductive parts" and "metallic pipes between which a bonding connection was required"

That's not the same as a main protective bonding conductor is it?

no work completed by me as yet, just got a feeling new kitchen went in and if pipe work was altered then bonding was probably not reconnected, but was going to disconnect 10mm from CU and test from there to stop tap with wander lead. was hoping for less than 0.05 but is that ok if i cant prove clamp is there and within 600mm?

My old boss got inspected by the NICEIC and kitchen fitters had concealed the M.E.B to the water. They insisted that he got the kitchen fitters back to make the termination point accessible.
