Discuss BT Socket - having a blonde moment! in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Ok, got a client who want me to connect a BT "extension" into the back of the socket in their house. The "extension" cable is of the type you would buy off the shelf and has already fitted the socket on one end and the plug on the other - both moulded into position so its not possible to check the colours and connections used!.

The "BT" house socket is connected thus:

1. nc
2. Blue/white band
3. Orange/white band
4. nc
5. White/blue band
6. nc

The "extension cable has the following colours

Red
Blue
Green
White

so the question is in what order do I connect the cable shown in the picture?

Many thanks.....

(being very blonde today)

strip and separate the cores. plug into socket. the line pair will have 48V d.c. on them.

So I'm thinking that:

1. nc
2. White
3. Green
4. Blue
5. Red
6. nc

??

OK, too late. Just seen MarkieSparkie's response so a BIG thanks all.

you only want 2 and 5 connected. red and white, either way round. polarity couls be an issue with broadband. if so, switch em round
