So I've got a job they want a consumer unit moving to the adjacent wall and a few alterations in the kitchen and a couple of new dedicated circuits one for a double oven and one for the Hob.
This obviously will require a EIC
The property is around 20 years old and has no mains wired smoke alarms, come to think of it I dont even think it has battery powered?
My question is do I need to wire new mains wired smoke detectors throughout the house?
Or does this only apply for new dwellings?

The requirement for mains wired smoke detectors is in building regs, so is applicable to new builds, or material alterations where BC are involved.
Is the property rented ?

No, the only works been carried out is a kitchen refit, but no material alterations. All internal works.

Thank you. I was just a little unsure, I work mainly in commercial and have been picking up more domestic works. I will be using this job as my assessment to be on the certified persons scheme. Just wanted clarification

No requirement but a strongly recomended.!

I always recommend it, and always take the time to explain that it's a heat detector that will be in the kitchen, so burning the toast won't have the whole house squealing, I've noticed it's the thought of having this happen, to be why many don't want them installed. So seems to persuade people to get them.
