Hi All,

I'm new to this forum. I'm looking for advice on fitting drop down lights in a property that we rent out. As no electrical work is involved other that fitting the light bulb and attachment I am removing the old L shaped bracket and fitting new ones for the new light fittings. However on two of them I have broken off one of the plastic tabs (see.pic) so the bracket will no longer attach to the black box. To be safe and within regulations is it possible to attach the L shaped bracket to the black box using some.special tape? If so what type of tape or does the whole thing need replacing. Many thanks in advance

you could attach the connector block to the bracket with a small cable tie. if in any doubt, get an electrician in to do the job.

You may be able to use a self tapping screw through the fixing holes in the terminal block, or if the bracket has a thread in the holes a small machine screw.

tbh, half the time i leave the stupid brackets off.

If you're using the old type filament halogen lamps then the bracket is required to keep the connector and the PVC wiring a safe distance away from the enormous amount of heat being produced. I'd just cable tie them back into place.
