Dunno if this helps, Ripped off another forum.:D

Economy 10 Tariffs offer 10 hours of off-peak electricity, which suppliers charge at a discounted rate. This tariff best suits households with modern heating alternatives such as EHC Electric Combination Radiators. If you are on Economy 7 and you are running out of hot water or if your storage heaters are cooling off by the evening then the EHC Combination Radiators and Economy 10 could be an excellent solution for you.

To be on an Economy 10 tariff you must have an Economy 10 meter. These differ from standard meters as they have additional capability, which enables them to measure the consumption of electricity between the set Economy 10 hours specified by the supplier.

The structure of the ten off peak hours is three hours in the afternoon; two hours in the evening; and five hours over night. The time of the designated hours can vary so it’s best to ask your proposed supplier directly for precise times.

Hi

thanks for the reply, from what i have read i think the whole installation becomes off peak during these hours and only 1 consumer unit is required. The only thing i must be carefull of is that i time the electric boiler to come on at the right times otherwise it will cost a fortune to run.

Many thanks

I worked on a economy 10 install not so long ago. As far as I could make out the whole house is fed on the reduced tariff for 3 different times over the 24 hrs - midnight to 5am noon to 3pm and 8pm to 10pm. this does vary though but this is what Scottish and southern run.

The install had 2 separate CU's so watch out - especially if the immersion has a boost. On the E10 meter there was a boost button allowing for a top up when required. Also the main isolator had 4

Careful on the isolation. Found out the hard way when I thought it was economy 7 and at lunch time got a nice wee reminder to check for dead every time!

i fit electric heating on economy 10 all the time. Economy 10 records 10 hours of off peak electricity to the property, but doesn't switch in the same way that economy 7 does. Basically you have a 24 hour supply that is charged at a pre determined low rate for 10 hours. The main thing to remember is that the supply is always live!!

let the electric boiler run when it needs to, it wont cost a fortune at other times. more info at my website globalelectricheating.my14daytrial.co.uk
