Discuss Faulty gas meter? in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

I hit a gas pipe years ago. it was like hitting the jackpot! Went straight to the gas meter to switch off. The red indicator pointer was whizzing around like hell. So went to phone box (no mobiles in those days) to report incident to my bosses and what I had done. They said, have I switched the gas off. I said no, I'm just having a smoke whilst waiting.

Most gas meters make a fair amount of noise when a high demand is made like a boiler starting up from cold.
You wouldn't have heard it before hand because there probably wasn't a demand for the boiler. After a few hours of no power the house and the hot water will have cooled down and so there will be a demand for the boiler when power is restored

The meter had returned to a normal speed so to speak so customer was happy.

Had a poo on the shagpile which didn't go down too well though. Cheers for that one telectrix!

cheers all
