Hi folks,

I need some help with a motor control circuit for a reversible motor/pump.
This may be a very simple question with a very simple anwser so forgive me if it is. I know very little about this sort of thing so any help would be much appreciated.
I have been given the task of drawing a basic circuit with a forward reverse contactor with interlock & finding the appropriate one for the job. Its for a 3ph 2.2kw motor driving a reversible foam pump.
I hopefully understand correctly that both contactors cannot be operated at the same time because of the interlock & that the stop botton has to be pressed before you can engage the motor in the opposite direction?
I wondered if I needed some kind of time delay in the circuit of 30secs or so, to stop users going from forward, straight to reverse before the motor/pump had time to slow down & stop first? If so how/where in the circuit would it be incorparated? What kind of contactor/timer would you folks recommended if any?
I've found a few contactors in various catalogues & online, I've also found a few different time delays which only seem to allow the circuit to run for a short space of time before they cut the supply, so don't look suitable.

Many Thanks in advance, Chris.

The time delays will be to prevent the motor being reversed while still running forward due to inertia.
Give a typical plant operator the chance it will be press stop with one finger and press reverse with another. The timers are to stop motor damage, not delay stopping.

  1. Motor running forward
  2. Stop PB pressed
  3. Forward contactor opens
  4. Delay timer starts
  5. Motor runs to a stop
  6. Timer allows either start buttons to be pressed

The timers are a good thing in preventing damage, other than that it’s clout the plant operator with a lump of 3X2

Give a typical plant operator the chance it will be press stop with one finger and press reverse with another.

Thats what i expect will happen, some of the peeps that will use this have no mechanical/electrical sympathy, just brute force & ignorance!
I think I understand the basic operation, still struggling a bit with drawing it out as a wiring diagram, but I'll get there!

Thanks for the replys guys.

Cheers, chris :)
