Hi Guys, I have recently moved and want to wire my Nest in to a Y plan system. I have a fused spur next to my old programmer that is in the kitchen downstairs but would want to put my Nest (Heatlink) in the airing cupboard which is upstairs.
So my question is how far can you have a fused spur from the load?

The obvious thing to do would be to put the heat link in place of the original programmer.

If for aesthetics you would prefer it in the airing cupboard, you might be able to repurpose some of the cores from the original programmer that run to the airing cupboard so you have a permanent supply up there.

Having the Heatlink in the airing cupboard is for aesthetics and also use the wiring that goes to the thermostat as my wiring Center is also there. This now lets me put the Nest thermostats on the wall.
So the fuse spur being downstairs in the kitchen and the load (Heatlink) being upstairs is not a problem?
Thanks for the reply.

I cant see a problem, the spur probably already feeds the boiler and auxiliary controls anyway (although this is not guaranteed)

Yes, that's no problem. I've done several like that. The cables in the old programmer can be connected together as needed and then a blank plate fitted. The existing thermostat cable will likely go back to the airing cupboard wiring centre, so the heat link will be best placed there, and then you can also connect directly to the valve wiring.
