Discuss Generation meter for solar panels not working in the Solar PV Forum | Solar Panels Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

P

Peace

We have a Landis gyr E110 generation meter for our solar panels. The reading has not changed since a long time. The red LED light on the right is a constant red ( and not blinking red). What could be the problem here? The installer says a call out charge to inspect it would be £120 and a new generation meter would cost around £1000 . I think a new inverter would cost around £3000. Is there anything I can do myself to sort this? Will a regular electrician be able to help me with this?

a "regular" electrician with knowledge of solar will be able to help with this. not all sparks know enough about solar, myself included. it goes on the roof, it works when it's sunny, and not after dark. there, that's my total knowledge of solar.

unlikely to be a meter fault, more likely that the inverter isn't working - have you checked the inverter?

Your installer is ripping you off at those prices, we'd expect to be fitting a new meter for more like £250 including the paperwork to register the new meter for customers of other companies, never mind our own customers.

Inverter swap out should be under warranty, with fitting usually paid by inverter company.

This is a pretty shocking level of post sales customers service / blatant attempt to extract excessive amounts of cash from you to fix a basic problem that could well be an installation problem.

A new gen meter £1000.00 & inverter £3000.00, whats your location.
anything you can do yourself, call me.
at that rate I would travel quite a distance.
only joking if this is quote you have had check warranty & if not covered then get someone else.

what are your inverter readings today, then check next day see if you have any generation upstairs.
inverter maybe in fault mode. can you give us these readings for today & tomorrow depending on the type of day also. or maybe a problem with a string or strings. more detail on readings please & any faults inverter is showing.

@Peace where are you, there are loads of reputable installers on this forum that would sort you out for considerably less than you've been quoted by your rip off installer (We won't ask what you paid for the system, though most of us here would suspect that that was also overpriced)

Where are you?

Forgive me if this comes across as stupid but have you checked if your solar fuse has tripped? On my system a constant red light on the GM means no mains power to the inverter, the red light being powered by the battery in the GM.

Might be worth checking all your connections to the array.
