We have this thread on TilersForums.com and it's just been restarted because the old thread had 20,000 replies and 500,000 views. And there were 700 pages. Started to lag a bit on slow connections.

I think we had a bash of this before, but I can't find the thread, so thought I'd start another one off.

If you have time in the mornings, come post in the thread before you head off to work, let us know what you've got on and what the weather is like in your area etc. Anything at all is fine. :)

Posts and likes get counted towards your total stats in this thread.

So GOOOD MORNING PEOPLE - WEATHER IS NICE TODAY IN STOKE. I'M THANKFUL IT'S FRIDAY, HAD A RUBBISH WEEK. THANK GOD IT'S OVER.

Testing the protection devices on two small transformers at a power station today. First one already finished.

Cascade tied up this morning, can't sleep.

Protection devices on 1 small transformer and 1 generator stepup transformer this morning. 1 more to do them back to the hotel.

Booked flights this morning. Fed up with 2025 already so heading to Spain for 10 days. Being Winter it's not possible to get direct flights from Scotland so I have to go via Gatwick. Easyjet for all 4 flights.
GLA-LGW = £83 return
LGW-MAH = £33 return
Taxi to airport =£30 each way and it's only 7 miles!
Travel pricing is weird!
Last year I went to Oban by train from Helensburgh. Using my "bus pass" for a discount that return journey was £3.
When I got to Oban I took the wee ferry to Kerrera which is about 500m trip and takes less than 3 minutes...£3:50...but the ticket machine was broken so I didn't pay. I went into the CalMac office to pay when I returned but the lady at the desk said not to bother!
Parking in the west end of Glasgow is £3:20/hour.
Anyway, I wish you all a peaceful and healthy 2025!

I’m needing 2 or 3 plane tickets to Seoul in South Korea about October time…..
if I can get them for £30 a pop, I’d be happy

I can’t believe I could be so stupid!

I went to a local farm as the customer had managed to damage another cable…. (Second one in a month)
This one meant taking the ladder off the van to access the route, and reclip a cable high up.

Laid the ladder back on the van rack when I was finished as I went to do some low level work. Actually drove around the farm and forgot to clamp the ladders back down.

Got home a little early and went upstairs for a shower… looked out the window and thought….. “that ladder doesn’t look…… OH SH…T!”

So I managed to drive around 20 miles home with an unclamped ladder. It had slid maybe a rungs height backwards and over to the other side of the roof.

I’m surprised it didn’t launch off at the first corner…. And even more surprised that the 2 police cars I met on the road didn’t blue light me.

Nearest I had to this was driving along a single track road with a few 3m lengths of 15mm and 22mm copper tube tied directly to the rack.
The road in question was fairly straight, a 100m section of corners, then straight again up a hill, which you could see from the first straight. This meant that 99 times out of a 100 you didn't need to slow much for the corners, except for the 1 in a 100 time you would meet a car in the middle. This day was that 1 day, and the car was a police car - probably the only police car to travel that road in a month. We both slammed on our brakes pretty smartish and safely came to a halt about 10m apart. Unfortunately, one of the 22mm pipes (which was leftovers being taken away from a site) must have had a 15mm pipe loose inside of it, which flew out like a javelin being launched and landed in the road, coming to a halt about two feet in front of the police car.
The police car was being driven by a reasonably attractive police woman, and I had to turn the charm right up to the highest level to get away with that one.

I've had a near miss with a ladder but almost on the receiving end. I was driving down to Minehead behind a van. Luckily I was keeping my distance as the ladder came off the van and landed on the road in front of me. He kept going. I got out and walked to the ladder with horns blowing behind me thinking I had just done an emergency stop for no reason.

:fearscream:I had a set come off a van in front of me in the middle lane, they bounced feet first on the road in front of me and summersaulted over my van missing me by shear luck!
I have also lost things off my roof, last one was a whole bundle of SA2 that I'd put up there to make room in the van and forgot to take off before heading to the next job, it stayed on for about 6 miles before a corner won.
It was a cold December day and as it hit the road nearly all of the lengths shattered, split the packaging and deposited shards of trunking all over the road.
Nearly an hour with a brush and shovel to tidy that lot up!

When I told my story to the CEF manager this morning, he says he recommends removing the couplings from steel conduit if tied to the roof of a van, as they can shake loose at speed and can smash windscreens of following vehicles.

I’m going to stop carrying the ladder unless I know I’m going to need it…. It was just me being forgetful.

Sitting in car waiting for youngest to finish her driving theory test.
2 panic attacks so far today. Her, not me

Not that she’s going to need to drive any time soon. She’s the one with 4 unconditional offers for uni, and we know from the eldest’s experience, there’s no point taking your own car to whichever uni… as it’ll never get used.

I've just spent the morning doing one of my most hated jobs. Yes, I've been PATesting. A 4 hour drive yesterday to get here, did 3 vans full of equipment and now sat in the hotel about to write up the reports for the lifting equipment I also checked. At least the PAT reports are simple as it's a download able tester.

My middle one is getting excited because we're getting into Eurovision season.... The countries are starting to run their individual compitions to find an entrant and the the BBC are trying their best not to let slip that a 3 piece country girl group that appeared on The Voice in 2019 will be representing the UK before the official announcement sometime in march.

Ireland have gone full blown europop this year after the horror show of last years Bambi Thug..... With a song about sending a dog into space...... "Laika Party"..... Nice wordplay there.

The Maltese entry is called "Kant"... which is Maltese for "Singing" but they sing it with an unfortunate pronounciation.... so we will see how it fares with the censorship of the BBC. Considoring the majority of the song is in English.... They cant just sing the title in Maltese

Sweden are already the bookies favourite to win..... but havent decided on their entry yet. Go figure.

Well, on call today. Currently sat in a garden center cafe bored stiff while the wife stuffs her face. She's already dragged me kicking and screaming around the plants. I would rather be in work!

So far today I've driven from s.Wales to Kent to take oil samples from 5 transformers, 3 generator txs and 2 auxiliary txs. Got 2 sampled but had to leave the 400kV yard as the site was coming online. So, waiting for the site to sync and then back in to do the other 3. Should be fairly early to my hotel for tonight and then off to another site tomorrow for 6 more samples. Once they are done it's a drive back home. Sometime life is soooo difficult :D

Just up the road from me. Police asked if I had any cctv footage of the night, but it only points at the vehicles, not the public path…. And would have just been in black and white at that time of the morning.

Suffice to say, the rumours are rife about this.

It's 9.35 and I've already finished today's job. I'm sat in Meadowhall car park in Sheffield going to waste some time. All that's left for me to do today is drive to Runcorn to my hotel but can't check in until 3pm and it's only 1 1/2 hours away.

Sounds like you need to cary a fishing rod with you, must be some lakes local.

A fishing rod? Hmmmmm....well the wife does tell me I need to sling my hook. I hope she's talking about fishing.

We're down at our chalet in Somerset. The sun is out, the sky is blue and just thinking of treating the wife and son to a high class meal. Wetherspoons or Brewers Fare. I live life right on the cutting edge!!!!

You'll never guess what. Got ran into today.

Bloke came from nowhere and ran into me.

Luckily was about 17mhp tops so no airbags deployed or broken bones this time.

Rang cops as he was dead aggressive and was trying to blame me. They saw right through him at the scene but got footage of it now and possibly going to arrest him.

Was it the boss of that other forum??

Anyway.. glad you”re ok this time.

Maybe you should drive a bulldozer from now on?

You're not having much luck with cars. Can I suggest you buy THIS
Love the tank or a bulldozer.

I've actually been thinking about buying a motorbike but maybe I shouldn't eh.

Wonder what pile of junk they'll give us as a courtesy car this time. Was an electric MG once eeewww.

“What The Hell Just Happened”

No, not a cry for help, but a follow on from my Eurovision post #1981…. Which coincidently was the year Buck’s Fizz won for the Uk.

That above, is the title of the Uk song this year, from girl group Remember Monday…. I’ve heard about 3 seconds of it, but it’s being played in full tomorrow morning at 8am on radio 2, so I’ll delay judgement until then.

Other euro news, the Maltese “Kant” song has been asked to change the title and lyrics because of its similarity to a big sweary word.
Apparently, the BBC are getting the blame, but really it’s OFCOMs rules. The same BBC that didn’t mind Olly Alexander last year grinding around in a male communal shower room set.

Just pronounce it a different way…. Like William Shatner shouting “KHAAAAAAN” in Star Trek II

Belgiums Red Sebastian… who is a guy called Sebastian, and wears a lot of red… His song “Strobelight” will probably come with an onscreen epilepsy warning because of the flashing lights…

Australia…. Where did it all go wrong? Keep sending stuff like “Milkshake Man” and you’ll end up getting kicked out. You’re not in Europe anyway.
Sounds a bit like that Badger, Badger, Badger, Mushroom video that was really popular about 20 years ago… and the video reminds me of “Relax” by FGTH…. Which was also banned by the BBC.

Austria is trying an operatic style, clearly copying last years winner Nemo. Hitting notes only dogs can hear.

Favourites include Finnish “Ich Komme” (I’m coming)…. The Irish Norwegian Emmy, singing about a Russian canine and whoever Sweden puts forward from their national selection process which could be Mans Zermelow who won 10 years ago or Dolly Style, who have previously entered the selection process 4 times in 10 years with 9 different members

Finally, Slovenia are sending a song called “How Much Time Do We Have Left”…. And looking at geopolitics at the moment, we might not make it to May 17th if WWIII breaks out.

They're bang on with that title.

Trump being more dictatorish than even bloody putin right now.

Quick move to NZ. The least likely to suffer if everyone hits the N buttons.

We’ve got relatives in NZ, so that might not be a bad shout.

Did you also hear on the news that South Korea accidentally dropped a few bombs on their own country….. about 25miles from Seoul… where my daughter is!.

I’ve just read that it was a joint manoeuvres with the US military…. I’m not wanting to put 2 and 2 together but…….
