Hi. I'm sure this is a simple question to answer so I apologise for my complete ignorance!

My parents have just bought an apartment in Portugal and in the kitchen they have a brass fitting containing three halogen spotlights, and similar in the hallway. A couple of the bulbs have gone so they tried to replace them but not knowing what they were doing ended up exploding the new ones as they tried to put 12v bulbs in!

It turns out that the old bulbs have 230v 20w written on them (GU 5.3 fitting) which we have found are no longer available. Will any new bulbs work or do we need to get a new light fitting? Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. When you say replacement led you mean the unit, not bulbs? In other words, no modern bulbs will work?

Thanks for the link but despite them having 230v bulbs they don't have 20w, only 3/5/7w. I assume they're no good.
