Hi. I've just joined this forum but I'm not sure if I'm in the right place to be honest. I've got a Pioneer SA-1290 amplifier (stereo integrated amplifier) and have a problem with the voltage selector switch at the back of the unit. I was hoping to find someone who is familiar with Pioneer amps or wiring of amps generally as I'm sure I can't be the only one who has had this problem. Is it ok to post on this forum about this sort of thing? Thanks, Stan.

it's fine to post your question here, but i'm afraid you'd get a better response on a hi-fi geeks' forum. here we're more geared up to fixing the sockets you plug your gear into.

Thanks for accepting me. The problem with my amplifier is with one of the voltage selector switches on the rear panel. There are two switches, one sliding switch which is ok and the other is a round switch which it turned so the pointer lines up with the selected voltage. The round switch has the front part missing, this is the part which connects with the 6 contacts inside to join various primary windings on the main transformer. If I knew which contacts were made for 240V I could join these wires inside and it should be ok. I don't have a wiring diagram and the 6 wires go to either the transformer or the main pcb. I thought about using a multimeter to see what voltages are present but without knowing which wire does what, I'm struggling. If there's anyone who is familiar with the SA range of Pioneer amplifiers maybe they are familiar with this problem. I'm sure I'm not the first person to find that the switch has the front missing and I've tried to find a replacement switch with no luck. I figured the simplest solution would be to join the wires in the same way that would happen with the switch in the 240v position. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Update: Thanks for letting me post on this forum. Today I looked again at the wiring and after much head-scratching I joined two wires together and soldered them and now the amp works perfectly. Great news, happy days! Thanks again, Stan.
