  1. shower had incorrect isolation switch
  2. shower wired in 2.5mm cable
  3. shower suppl not on its own circuit
  4. earth not connected for circuit 3
  5. no earth sleeving circuit 4
  6. faulty switch on kitchen socket
  7. every circuit apart from the cooker had failed the insulation resistance test
thus the test conclusion was unsatisfactory.

guy then asked so all i need is to retest in 10 year :S

he was positive he doesnt need to rectify

property was rented out and he was landlord

Without meaning to sound like I'm taking a pop at you, which I'm not as I don't know you, are you confident that you are testing correctly? As with those figures something is seriously amiss somewhere.

exactly , its highly unlikely that those IR reading are caused by the cables themselves
more like duff jb's and poor terminations.
i'd be doing more investigating before advising a rewire of pvc thats only 30 years old.

i unplugged everything , the shower circuit was in with ring main on 2.5mm ,which had melted in the shower so 0.00 was expected there
surge protected ext i unplugged , didnt test between lives only L-E N-E

really cant understand this

I would do a global L-E test first, all breakers on,then 1 by 1 flick off and see where the culprit lies.As mentioned if all circuits were in service its impossible to have 0.00 on L-E without something going BANG.

Normally if i get such bad readings on a 25/30 yr old dwelling as you have gave example of. I will get my other meter out to double check. But i have that luxury at the moment. If i didnt i would get my mates to check against.

What protective device was protecting the shower?

are you sure it's not a power shower? and those IR readings would lead me to believe that it's a single neutral fault affecting more than 1 circuit. did you dis. the neutrals from the N bar in the CU before testing?
