Hi
This is my 1st post apart from an intro....hope I get it in the right place. Apologies in advance if I don't!!

I am thinking of buying a Fluke 2042 Cable Locator (or something very similar).

Can this kit locate underground SWA cabling (either live or dead) or does it only work with insulated cable in ducting?
I'm thinking maybe the steel wire masks the signal??

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Detection can be very variable but it should be able to locate an SWA down to about the likely depth of burial.
because it is a transmitter type they can be fairly sensitive. your best bet is to use one core as the signal generator.

I have the fluke and it does track SWAs to around 2 meters down. The armouring doesn't screen the signal as you pop the signal generator on the outer sheath anyway ;)
