Hi everyone,

I am looking for an electrician who can work with pyro cable, which seems to be a massive challenge as everyone I have spoken to so far either does not know how, or does not have the tools any more.

Is there anyone in the West London area who can help with this? I am based HA4 - Ruislip.

The job itself is relatively simple, I have a second floor flat where the electric meter was stolen. The meter box in the corridor of the flat itself, has the wires coming up into it and I need to fit a cut out switch for the electric company to put the meter onto. Unfortunately, the live wire is too short to go into a cut out switch as there is only 3 inches of cable visible.

Replacing the whole cable from ground to second floor is not practical as it is a pyro/MICC cable that comes up from the electric cupboard on the ground floor through the guts of the building and is embedded in the fabric of the block. The solution I have discussed with a couple of electricians is to move the meter box down the wall by 6-8 inches, exposing more of the wire and creating enough cable to put onto the cut out switch.

However, finding someone who can fit a pot onto pyro cable to achieve this is a big challenge as the technology has become less common.

Could you do this, or do you know someone who can? Any help is massively appreciated.

Many thanks
Matt

I may be able to help , but the cost might be very high for my services. I would need an inial visit to survey the problem, which I would require payment, on site any repairs would be paid for on an hourly basis £45/ hour plus any parts required, mileage will be 0.45 p per mile for ALL TRAVEL

but at least he'll know it's done right.

What size is the cable as I'd assume its a main feed so fairly substantial. I still have my Pyro tools and am based in W12 and could have a look if Dave can't make it.
