:)Advice please, A local shop has asked me to fit an ouside light to light up the ground outside approx 8m2 it wont be on a sensor he wants a switch putting in the shop the consumer unit is extremely old so i will hopefully talk power from loghting circuit any help with cable to use, light any help greatly appreciated not long out of college cheers:)

I agree with James if you were to put outside lights on existing lighting circuit all lights could be knocked out with a fault on your lights. At least with seperate circuit house lights would still work.

Find somewhere convenient to take power from and use a fused connection unit.. and 3 amp fuse if the loading is ok, otherwise 13amp.
You can get external IP rated FCU's to mount on the outside of a wall and run SWA from there.
Take the power through from behind it from a ring or lighting circuit. Nice and neat.

Run a Fused Switched Spur off the Ring main if you can and then run your light off the load side of the spur. Go for something like a IP rated MK spur good quality one. To seal the hole you could use a foam theres alot of things out there for that.

Hope that helps
