Hey all,
Got a few questions about a portacabin that's going to be used as an office block. Unfortunately I have not seen the cabin and doubt I will until it turns up unannounced no doubt. The cabin is 75m away from the closest supply which will be run underground in ducts (already in place). I am planning on supplying a 63A single phase supply using 25mmsq 3C swa (due to length of the run). The supply is TNS so no need to earth rod. Do I need to make any other considerations? Input greatly recieved.

WHY 63a? phone and ask the cabin supplier what is in it ? how big is it ? what will be in it? to many variables in your question M8

It's going to be used as a office for 12 staff. I've been told it will contain a lighting cct (few flourescent fittings), ring main(pc's, fax etc) and a max of 3 heater radials. The size is 40ft x 20ft. Unfortunately I can't get a full spec or even a viewing as it's all getting sorted higher up than me then thrown in my lap! It's a case of planning for every eventuality.

Basically it must conform to the regs as any other building would. It does not come into the category of temporary building in this instance.

i used to wire cabins / modular buildings , and theyre all different so i would speak to the supplier to check the loading and whether it will be single or tpn .

There will be an electrical planner at the company who will have done all the calculations and will know exactly what they require.

I'm actually very surprised that information hasn't been forthcoming already. In my experience there will be a contractor doing groundworks and services and they will be told evrything needed before the building is sited. eg position of concrete pads and exact positions and requirements for mains intake and water intake etc.

I meant the planner from the cabin company, he will have done his calculations and will know exactly what they need.

Ha v good. No seriously I now believe this cabin is on the cheap so I'm just going to wait and see what turns up.....and believe me I've known the guy who's ordering it for some time. Cheers for all your input, beginning to wonder if any proper companies exist anymore.

In other words, it's being bought secondhand so no information on anything!! lol!!!
