I intend to install a ring on my son's rented property as my assesment piece, I have written confirmation off the landlord and would like to start soon, I of course have insurance but do I need to inform building contol of my intention to install a ring? (surface)

I am part P regisetered and have heard different things about if I need to inform building control, do they need to come out before and after?

I would greatly appreciate any information or advice you could provide me with regarding this issue

Thanks Guys!!

Hum, you say you are Part P registerd but you are preparing for your assessment.

If you involve Building Control it'll cost!

I'd call Napit and see if they are happy for you to do the job for your assessment and then register it after you've passed your assessment. Elecsa allow this but don't know what Napit say.

I think I'm missing the point here, if you're 'Part P registered' as you say, why would you involve Building Control?

So if you are part P regisetered you don't need to inform building control even if your not with a napit like org?

thanks for the reply's by the way :)

I have this qualification, I thought this was part P

That doesn't make you Part P registered.

Ah ok, thanks. So the path I take to getting assesesd is that I must inform building control of my intention to install a ring, then inform them after for them to check, then book the assesment with NAPIT?

That's one method, and you would probably require two jobs to be assessed for registration.
Another method, would be to do the job/s, then get Napit to assess, and then notify the job/s through Napit.

But i'd still have to notify building control before though right?

Thanks!

Napit will alow you to do the job for your assessment, they have always done this. Check with them first as depending on your certificates etc they may want more than one job to assess your competency. Ring them and check, before you contact building control as you will likely save a small fortune

Hi rhys101, as SC says give NAPIT towers a call, think you have 30 days to notify a job after completion. Might be an idea to get a 2way lighting circuit into your assessment, as that was what I was assessed on initially, and i think it covers most bases that your assessor will be looking for regarding testing.
